As this year comes to a close, many people feel pressure to evaluate themselves harshly: what they didn’t do, where they fell short, what still feels unfinished. At Pleasantly Balanced Therapy, we invite a gentler approach.
This is not about starting over. It’s about continuing your journey with intention, self-compassion, and honesty. You are allowed to pause, reflect, and acknowledge yourself without judgment.
Your mental health is just as important as your physical health. Reflection is one way we care for it.
Before You Move Forward, Look Back with Care
Before thinking about what’s next, take time to honor what already happened. Like my mother would say, “Big up yourself.”
You did the year. And that matters.
Consider:
What did you accomplish this year, even if no one else saw it?
What did you survive that once felt overwhelming?
In what ways did you grow emotionally, mentally, or spiritually?
For example, maybe you managed to maintain a daily meditation practice, even if it was just for five minutes. Or perhaps you navigated a tough conversation with a family member and set healthier boundaries. These moments show your resilience and deserve recognition.
Gratitude doesn’t erase difficulty—it helps you recognize your resilience.
Reflecting on Relationships and Connection
Our journeys are deeply shaped by the relationships we're in. Connections influence our growth and well-being.
Take a moment to reflect on:
Which relationships improved or deepened? This could be with family, friends, partners, or even a spiritual connection.
Where did I communicate more honestly or set healthier boundaries?
Who felt emotionally safe, and how did you allow myself to receive support?
For instance, maybe you started sharing your feelings more openly with a close friend, which strengthened your bond. Or you learned to say no to requests that drained your energy, protecting your mental space.
Relationship growth often reflects the work you’ve done within yourself. When you nurture your inner world, your outer connections tend to improve as well.

What Added Joy and Meaning to Your Life?
As you continue your journey, it’s important to notice what brought you to joy and meaning. These are the things that nourished your spirit and helped you find peace.
Ask yourself:
What did I increase to my life that made it more enjoyable?
What routines, habits, or practices supported my peace?
What would I like to carry with me into the next season?
Maybe you started a weekly walk in nature that helped clear your mind. Or you picked up a creative hobby like painting or cooking that brought you satisfaction. These positive additions are valuable. They remind you that life includes moments of pleasure and peace, even during difficult times.
These answers help you move forward with intention instead of pressure.
